Andy Saunders Blog 1 Spring 2012

Andrew Saunders

1-10 -2012

Calabuynga! When I was surfing in Saint Augustine, Florida I fell off my board and got a nasty rash on my back and leg. I also got a rash on the bottom of my foot from the road while on roller-skates. I want to say peace out and rock on.

Hello, my name is Andy Jonathan Saunders I was born in Latvia. I am now living in Gainesville, Florida actually, no, I am living in the Micanopy Florida.  I have a dog, two cats, and hopefully, soon getting a parrot. I also like to eat; I really like to eat lasagna, Mac & cheese, and shepherd’s pie.

I am nearly six feet tall. I am 5' 11" and 1/2. I have big brown eyes, wear ten & a half shoe size, and a 32-34 pants. For a hobby, I race RC cars which is very hard considering you have to go over jumps and steer it with your own bare hands. My other hobby is flying RC planes and helicopters. Those are two fun things to do because I can get energy out when you have to turn around and get it before it hits a tree or you can always just have fun flying and doing tricks. Thanks you for listening, but yet, I have more.

My family's names are Herald, Sammy, Mr. Pink, Steve, Catherine, and Andrew. My dog is Herald, My cats names are Mr. Sharon Pink and Sammy or Samantha. My mother is Catherine and my dad is Steve. My dad is an engineer who loves to work with pipes. My mother is a nurse practitioner; she works at Santé Fe Community College. As for me, I am a regular school boy.

My family is important to me because they tell me jokes, give me oxygen, food, water, and especially they send me to SOAR. The OMG Store is the best thing that ever happened to me. I love to race RC cars because the first time I ever raced, I wrecked it. The second time I didn't wreck it because I hit the jumps.

My name is Harris Daniel Rothman. I’m 15 but I will be 16 on the 23rd.  When I was 30 days old I had heart surgery. This has been a big thing. Because of my heart I was not allowed to get hit by a truck they call a kid while playing football. This has been a great disappointment for me. I always wish to get head injuries, I’m 5’10 and I have very dirty blond hair. Actually it’s more like mud filled straw…
I live in a family that has two names. Doppelt & Rothman. But we have combined them to DoppRoth… It works out. My Mom’s name is Margery and my Dad’s is Larry. My family means so much to me. That is so obvious; I don’t think that is even necessary to say. If it wasn’t for them I would not be able to go to Soar.
So some things I like to do are, power stilt. It is a stilt attached to an aircraft spring. Long board which is awesome. I love video games (what 15 year old bro doesn’t?) I race or have raced high powered RC cars. I have only raced it about once officially. With friends I have raced a lot more often then when I got the semi-local race track.

There’s no I in team but there is a me and in my name JaMEs. The events from around my birth were in a hospital. There were a bunch of doctors in the delivery room when I first met my mom and dad. I was laughing the whole time instead of crying.

When I started kindergarten and 1st grade, I was scared for my life because my mom left me in the hands of a scary lady that I had no clue about. As I got older, around 2nd grade, my dad died from a heart attack. It crushed me. I lived many years with major depression and still am suffering from it, but I am trying my hardest to live my life to the fullest.

I did very well in elementary school, but as I got into middle school I started to lose interest due to other things, like depression or absences. I had a hard time in 9th grade because I never went to school.

I have a very decent life. I’m determined to live for a long time. When I grow up, I hope I become a good musician that isn’t to famous, but gets paid very well. I have lots of support from family and friends which I appreciate greatly.

My favorite bands or musical groups are probably Bassnector, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rusko. I enjoy all types of music because I’m determined to be a good musician and the more genres of music that I listen to the more, I’ll be able to play.

Will Calland's Autobiography

“It’s all fun and games until someone loses a nut”

Hello, my name is William Calland. I will be 14 on the 20th of January.  I live in Charlottesville, VA. I was born there, moved to Philadelphia, and then moved back to VA.
I am about 5’3, 115 pounds, and am the only one in my family without glasses.

My family includes my mom, my dad, sister, dogs, cats, rats, and me. My mom’s name is Vonnie, my dad’s name is Forrest, and my sister’s name is Julia. My dogs’ names are Rueben, Bubba, Minnie, and Truffles. My cats’ names are Calvin and Midsy. My rats’ names are Cassie and Bender.

This is Bender                                   This is Cassie

My mom is probably one of the sweetest people in the entire world. My dad is a trauma surgeon at UVA hospital and is one of the funniest, smartest people I know. My sister is everything to me. She is very supportive of me and I love her a lot. My family is important to me because without them, not only would I not be here, but I also would not have been as successful in life as I am now. I love them and they are my life.

    This is my sister

Some of my favorite activities include dancing, racing R/C cars, fishing, drawing, driving go-carts, listening to music, typing, playing with my pets, hanging out with friends, soccer, baseball, basketball, video games, and photography. I also love rats and ferrets. My rats are brother and sister. They are the cutest things in the world and I love them so much. Something else I have to talk about is fishing, I can proudly say that I am addicted to it. The largest fish I have caught is a Blue Marlin that weighed over 750 pounds. Personally, my favorite fish to catch is Red Drum. They are very hard fighters and it can take about a minute or two to reel them in.

Some of the important moments in my life include my love for cars which all the credit goes to my mom for telling me how to count all the nice cars on the road when I was about two. Another moment was when I caught my first fish with my dad. I also remember when my grandfather died. I have had many of people and pets I was close to that have died during my life. I also think it does not help with me coping with the stress I already have in my life. Another big memory is when I had my first trip to the emergency room at the University of Virginia Hospital, when a chain link fence went in my hand. Another learning experience was when I went to my first camp, which I stayed at for two weeks.
In conclusion, I think that life is going pretty well so far, and that I couldn’t ask for a better set of all the people in my life. This is why I am who I am!!!!!!!!

Nolan Turner

Hi, I'm Nolan Turner and I am twelve years old. I have attended SOAR once before in the spring of 2011 in the Coastal California Desert Southwest group. Although that has helped me with experience for this semester, academically the work has almost changed completely from last year.
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I have two brothers, Doug who is 23 and Tiger who is 9, one sister, Mary Martha who is 12, and of course two parents, mom and dad, (but I don’t think they want me to mention their age). My family is important to me because I have always grown up with them and haven’t been away from them for more than a week (not including the first semester of SOAR). That first semester really showed me how close my family was to each other.
Some of my favorite things to do are to play sports, specifically soccer and basketball. The thing I like most about these is that you are constantly moving around and it also keeps you fit. Another thing that I like to do is fishing, especially when you catch a fish because you have to out muscle the fish and reel it in. I also like to golf, horseback riding, and playing tennis down in Colombia, South America, where I go to visit family on my mother’s side.
So far, SOAR has really helped me because in traditional school, I couldn’t really express my feelings, struggles, or thoughts without getting in trouble. At SOAR, if you have a problem, you can always say what’s on your mind and get feed back from your staff. The past was pretty bad before SOAR because I had too much stress, I couldn’t even get my stuff done and I would always get into fights with my mother. When I came to SOAR all of that stopped. In the future, I hope to go to a small high school and eventually go to Georgia Tech.

Ivan Allen 5

My name is Ivan Allen the 5th or better known as 5. I have a feeling that you’re thinking wow he is the 5th Ivan and here is the story of how I got the nickname 5. When I was in 4th grade my P.E teacher named KK asked me “can I call you 5.” and ever since then my nickname has been 5 or I5. My name is Ivan Allen 5. My age is 15 and I live in Cumming, Georgia. My opinion of my physical appearance is that I am a really good long distance hiker and can carry about 20 pounds over my weight on my back and hike like that. Other than that my waist is bigger than I wish but that’s the way most of us guys are these days and my arms aren’t nearly as strong as my legs but decent.

My family’s names Carmen (or mom), Dad, Blain (step mother), step-sister Taylor, (Then the Pests or most of the time since they’re my brother and youngest) William and my other step-sister Jordan. Mom and Dad are in their 40’s, Blain (I’m not sure of age and don’t want to know). William is 12, Taylor is 13 and Jordan is 10. They keep a roof over my head until I find a permanent job because all the jobs I have are probably temporary. Also, they have connections with people like my dad that knows where to find the closest store that has the cheapest office supplies in almost what seems like a flash of an eye and that I can’t get until I get a jobs that will stick with me for life.

I am an avid bow hunter (since my mom isn’t a gun person). I hunt pretty much anything that you can hunt in Georgia with a bow. For example, White tail deer and Turkey mostly.  These things are important to me because both A. help me in my youth so I can be a better adult and B. it teaches me a lot of adulty things in my youth/teenage years. My dad's teaching me how to drive at about 10 and out of his lap at 13 and other things that will help me in my adult life to where I can be a better man because of it, and hopefully a better teenager/student while I’m technically still a kid.

What I would change in my life is that I’ve been so immature so much in my life. I would have stopped myself from starting half the fights I was in because half of my fights could have been easily stopped. My feelings about my past are that I wish I was less violent and could have acted my age which would have stopped most of the fights that I got in. My hopes for the future are simple and they go like this, I want to act at least my age if not older, get a good outdoorsy job and live up in a farm somewhere, raise a family. The simple things like that.

Alex Rapoport first blog

Hello my name is Alex Rapoport, and i’m 14 years old. I live in Eagan Minnesota.
I am 6 foot. I look like Caliou the cartoon character according to my teacher Romona.
I live with my moms and step-dad and my dog. My moms name is Geri, my step-dads name is Steve, and my dogs name is Roy (he’s a black lab). Well my family is very fit and athletic. My mom has been on a swim team for 11 or 12 years I think. My step-dad has been biking for 30 or 40 years and he’s done the Pac Tour multiple times which I think is really cool (the Pac tour is a 3 week bike across the country). My family is important to me because they support me in a lot of ways but I like when they support me athletically.
Some of my favorite activities that I do are Rock Climbing, running, biking, swimming, watching movies, snowboarding, watching Jersey Shore and Teen Mom 2, playing with my dog Roy, working out (I love pushups), camping, fishing, and eating Georgia  peaches.
My life is going good. I’m trying to eat healthier. My past was not so good but since I’ve been at SOAR it has improved. What  I hope for the future is that I will attempt to join Navy SWCC’s or the Seals (more likely go to bud/s) when I am 17. For the mean time I think I will focus on school.

Alex Solomon's blog

Alex Solomon                                                             1/10/12

I absolutely hate my name! All of my friends and family praise me for it though I don’t know why. My name is so common, everyone has it. They all say I’m special but makes no sense to me. It is in fact the name of royalty in many forms but I still do not understand it. My name is Alexander Michael Solomon Elg. The only uniqueness is the way Solomon and Elg is pronounced. I am 13 years old and live in Saint Augustine, Florida the nation’s oldest city but in a few months I will move to Asheville, North Carolina.

I am super awesome sauce looking! I have a thin-broad nose which is a tan color just like the rest of my body. I wear gloves on my hands and love to wear black. I’m about 5”4. I’m white I have legs the length of my torso and I wear a black hat backwards. I wear leather bracelets as well as power-balance bracelets.

I have a unique family. My mother’s name is Bonnie and she looks very much like me, if I had a female figure. My dad’s name is Chuck Elg and he looks like a gorged Chuck Norris with the strength qualities but without the beard. My puppy dog is a Chihuahua but doesn’t look like one. She looks like a blue Pomeranian without the hair. My family tends to transition between passive and aggressive characteristics and somehow that personality has wiggled its way into my dog in the past year and a half.

My family has supported me in so many ways, many of which have really saved my life in the past.  I try to do the same to them. I always do my best to help them out whenever possible. They taught me to read, write, and even division. The main lessons and all of the awesome junk that comes with life plus there is that natural extremely strong connection which is what just keeps each other from smashing each other’s skulls in with cast iron skillets.
