Hi, I'm Nolan Turner and I am twelve years old. I have attended SOAR once before in the spring of 2011 in the Coastal California Desert Southwest group. Although that has helped me with experience for this semester, academically the work has almost changed completely from last year.
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I have two brothers, Doug who is 23 and Tiger who is 9, one sister, Mary Martha who is 12, and of course two parents, mom and dad, (but I don’t think they want me to mention their age). My family is important to me because I have always grown up with them and haven’t been away from them for more than a week (not including the first semester of SOAR). That first semester really showed me how close my family was to each other.
Some of my favorite things to do are to play sports, specifically soccer and basketball. The thing I like most about these is that you are constantly moving around and it also keeps you fit. Another thing that I like to do is fishing, especially when you catch a fish because you have to out muscle the fish and reel it in. I also like to golf, horseback riding, and playing tennis down in Colombia, South America, where I go to visit family on my mother’s side.
So far, SOAR has really helped me because in traditional school, I couldn’t really express my feelings, struggles, or thoughts without getting in trouble. At SOAR, if you have a problem, you can always say what’s on your mind and get feed back from your staff. The past was pretty bad before SOAR because I had too much stress, I couldn’t even get my stuff done and I would always get into fights with my mother. When I came to SOAR all of that stopped. In the future, I hope to go to a small high school and eventually go to Georgia Tech.

Dude. Great blog but you are 13. You were 12 when you started at SOAR.
ReplyDeleteNolan! I'm really proud of you! You are so smart, and it's true, you have a wonderful family! You have so many great experiences under your belt already. I'm glad that I get to sometimes be apart of your life, even if it is just driving you to soccer!

Nolan, I am glad to see that you are having fun already, but that is no surprise. I hope you have an amazing time in the everglades though do try to not get bitten or eaten by anything. I do have to say that I am jealous that you are on another adventure but I have to say make the best of the time you are out adventuring and questing,
